On a recent trip to Helmand Province, I had the opportunity to ride with an Afghan National Army (ANA) convoy from Camp Shorabak to the town of Gereshk. I noted various people waving and giving “thumbs up” as the convoy vehicles ahead of the one I was in passed. I managed to capture a couple pictures of this despite being tucked away.
Gereshk was cleared last Fall by ANA, British, and coalition forces. It is an example of the success of clear, hold, and build with proper security and governance.

Children wave as an ANA convoy rolls along the A1 Highway near Gereshk.
